Travels Into Several Remote Nations Of The World; ...
|
Five fantastic maps of various regions of the world visited by Lemuel Gulliver in his travels as described by Jonathan Swift in his renowned satire that was first published in 1726. Swift was known to be an acquaintance of the mapmaker Herman Moll and it is quite likely he originally mapped Swift's conceptions. These, later editions, are unsigned but are based on Moll's originals. Map one shows the island of Lilliput, to the south-west of Sumatra; map two shows Brobdingnag, north of California; three shows various islands to the east of Japan; four depicts Houyhnhnms Land off Lewins Land; and map five shows the island of Balnibarbi.
