Guinee, Entre Serre-Lione Et Le Passage De La Ligne
|
A clear and concise map of the West African coast from 'Benar' and 'Cape de Verga' down to the mouth of the Gabon River. A large central inset map shows the 'Gold Coast' (modern-day Ghana) with the coastal towns and forts attribute to the Dutch, English, Brandenburgs or Danish. While coastal detail on both the inset and main map is considerable, very little interior detail was known at this time. Further evidence of intensive European interests in this area is the multi-national mileage scale given at lower left. D'Anville's map coincided with considerable European trading interests in this area - a valuable reference.
