A decorative and colourful map of the area between the rivers Orinoco and Amazon, thus encompassing parts of present-day Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam and Brazil. The map from the so-called "golden age" of Dutch cartography is dominated by the fictional (and here enormous) Lake Parime. Situated on the shores of the lake is Manoa (or El Dorado). The fabled
city and lake were searched for by Sir Walter Raleigh and Alexander von Humboldt, amongst others. The title appears in a garlanded cartouche at upper right and the Atlantic is decorated with a compass rose, sailing ships and a sea monster. Jansson's name appears in a decorative surround at lower right and a mileage scale is also given.
