Above this detailed and attractive plan of Sheerness dockyard, with key, there is also a magnificent panoramic view. The whole is contained within an elaborate border including further vignettes of ships and ship building. Thomas Milton (1743-1827) was a surveyor, draughtsman and engraver, and was responsible for this plan. He worked in Dublin and London and was governor of the Society of Engravers. He is best known for
his magnificent series of the Royal Dockyards, of which this is a good example.
