An interesting and uncommon miniature atlas.
12mo. Engraved Tp, Tp, pp.[x], pp.496, ff.[i] (Tp), ff.[i], pp.xxxxiii,pp.[lviii], ff.[i], pp.[lviii], ff.[ii], pp.xxv. Contemporary vellum -a little stained, but still fresh.
Volume two of a three part work. The first volume contained woodblock maps of the countries of mainland Europe, however, this volume includes 30 further maps displaying other parts of the world. Gabriel Bucelin's text, published by globe maker Johann Praetorius, has been augmented with the addition of a section of 30 miniature maps and is here in its second edition. Maps included are each of the Continents, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Sicily, Malta, Ireland, Palestine, China, Japan and South East Asia. Many of these maps show interesting geographic features, such as "America" (Burden 329) where the Amazon appears to cross all of South America. Although this is one part of a larger publication this volume stands alone as a complete atlas.
