A particularly fine impression of this "uncommon map of America" (Burden). Matheus Merian's bold engraving copies the detail of the influential Jodocus Hondius map of some thirteen years earlier. Insets show the north and south polar regions while finely etched ships and sea monsters occupy the seas. Side margins close as issued but with protective edges added.
