Dioecesis Stavangriensis, & Partes Aliquot Viciniae ...
|
This attractive map of Stavangar illustrates many of the traits for which Blaeu was renowned: the consummate care and attention to detail is apparent in the map's production and it has been printed on paper of a high quality. Original outline colour delineates boundaries and considerable physical features are also shown. The map was published in a 1643 French text edition of "Le Theatre Du Monde ...". Carefully engraved sailing ships adorn the seas and the title cartouche at lower left shows seated, horned goats with a 'native' holding an axe and large branch. The shield surmounting the title cartouche is, as expected on this map, blank. A good example of a popular Blaeu map.
