A large and magnficent physical map of the Eastern Hemisphere. Dissected and laid on linen, perhaps intended for wall display in an educational environment (this is No 1 of the "Wandkarten" series). The map includes good detail of Australia for the period with the recently re-named Tasmania also carefully delineated. Little detail is shown in the Antarctic, but conjecture is avoided. The physical colouring of the map clearly indicates mountain heights and further information is added with a brief key identifying the heighest mountains in the Himalayas. The map was published by Dietrich Reimer, for whom Heinrich Kiepert worked, who established one of the most well-known and successful publishing companies in Germany. "Tooley's Dictionary Of Mapmakers" suggests that Kiepert published more than 400 maps, atlases and globes for Reimer. In good condition, this is a good example of a wall map from this period.
