L'Isole Piu Famose Del Mondo ...
|
Small folio. Engraved Tp, pp.[xxii], pp.211 with 48 engraved maps in text and with woodcut head and tail pieces. Contemporary vellum binding with repaired spine. Old Library stamps evident. A few light marginal stains and some light foxing. Protective lower margin added to the title-page. Porcacchi's famous and beautiful isolario, containing maps of the islands of the world, includes two general maps of the world, maps of North America (a copy of Zaltieri's renowned map - the first of North America as an entity), Cuba, Hispaniola, Iceland, Ireland, the Scottish Islands, Malta, Cyprus and so on. This is the fourth edition of the book, second issue with the date changed to 1605, with the additional map of Istria after Pietro Coppo. An overall good example.
