The first edition of Girolamo Ruscelli's Ptolemaic map of the
ancient region of Sarmatia, or south-western Russia, based on the earlier work of Giacomo Gastaldi. Many rivers are shown flowing into the Black Sea and an indication of relief, specifically the northern part of the Caucasus mountains, is also given.
