Di Marco Polo E Degli Altri Navigatori Veneziani ...
|
Quarto. Two volumes in contemporary binding. pp.[viii], pp.391 + pp.408, with 4 folding engraved maps at the end of volume II. Pagination includes all titles and blanks. Zurla's book is a history of Venetian travellers from the famous, such as Marco Polo, to the more obscure. Zurla's particular interest was in reconstruction of the routes taken, using the evidence of the original accounts coupled with his own research. At the end is a section on early maps published in Venice, with a copy of the Fra Mauro world of 1459, the Zeno map of North Atlantic waters of 1559, an engraving of a painting from the Council of Venice's chambers showing Marco Polo's travels, and Zurla's own reconstruction of the route.
