Among mapmakers of the seventeenth century the house of Blaeu is justly recognised as pre-eminent in terms of art, cartography and craftsmanship. This fine map of China, Japan and an island Korea is typical. The map is boldly engraved and the title is supported by stylised Chinese figures. Below is a dedication to Theodore Bas, Director of the Dutch East India Company. The French verso text is signed F, p.6.
