First appearing in Frederick De Wit's sea atlas of 1675, this chart was not, according to Ginsberg in his "Important Early Maps Of The Northern regions", intended for the practical navigator. Rather, it was to supplement the maps of conventional atlases. This example of the chart as re-issued by L.Renard in 1715 has additional detail. The chart displayed yet further changes when re-issued in 1745 by the Ottens family.
