Dorsetshire, Described By C.Saxton ...
|
An attractive and rare item, being a revision of the first printed map of the county. Some time after 1684 Philip Lea acquired the original copperplates from Christopher Saxton's "An Atlas Of England And Wales ...", first published in 1579. Lea published them in atlas form from around 1689 as "The Shires Of England And Wales" with added information copied from Speed, such as the town plan of Dorchester, roads from John Ogilby, and he replaced the Latin titles with English. A particularly decorative example.
