An important map of Jamaica by John Ogilby, providing a model for many of the later maps of the island. The map is based on survey work of 1670 ordered by Sir Thomas Modyford. The island is divided into named precincts and major towns are shown. Port Royal is shown in the vicinity of Spanish Town. A bold title cartouche and mileage scale appear in the opposing lower corners of the map. Centrally placed is 'A Catalogue of the Several Precincts, with the most Eminent Settlements therin marked and named as followeth ...'. A finely engraved and most attractive map.
