First published in London by John Overton in 1671, this is a later published example by his son Henry. A large and handsome depiction of the Royal Exchange as it stood at the completion of its rebuilding after the Great Fire of 1666. The building is shown from a bird's-eye view to the south, giving a view both of the magnificent arcaded facade and the internal courtyard. Angels with trumpets (decked with the flags of the City and of the Mercers' Company respectively) bear aloft a banderole title neatly topped by Gresham's grasshopper. Drawn and engraved by Robert White (1645-1704) and dated 1671 in the plate, this particular example bears the eighteenth-century imprint of his son, Henry, who took over the business in 1707. Price includes VAT.
