Salesbury Sarisburia
|
A miniature town plan of Salisbury apparently based on that of Speed, although published over a century later. A numbered key names the town's churches and, of course, the cathedral. An inset view of the Town House appears in the lower left corner. Cursive page numbering indicates that these town plans appeared in Gerritsz Tielenburg's "Gezichten Der Steeden Londone, Canterbury ...", but were originally published in Van Der Aa's "La Galerie Agreable Du Monde ..." of 1729. This plan appeared in Volume I of three that covered the towns of the British Isles.
