This rare and important map is one of a series of county maps attributed to William Smith the antiquarian, each lacking the cartographer's name and consequently often referred to as 'the Anonymous series'. The maps were engraved in the Netherlands and published in London. Skelton suggests that the source of this map was manuscript material from John Norden. Here the county is shown with north to the right and with the imprint of John Overton. A little unevenness at the edge of the unusually wide margins.
