Untitled [Ptolemaic Map Of The Holy Land]

Untitled [Ptolemaic Map Of The Holy Land]

A good, strongly cut, woodblock version of Claudius Ptolemy's "Asiae V", the classical depiction of the area now known as the "cradle of civilisation". Covering the Middle East between Asia Minor, Turkey, Persia, and Arabia, this region remains a meeting point, and melting point, between East and West, and between New and Old Worlds. Included is the island of Cyprus, in good detail, Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Jordan, with Mesopotamia and the Rivers Tigris and Euphrates. A good example of the earliest cartographic depiction of the region.
