Scotia Regnum Divisium In Partem Septentrionalem Et Meridionalem
|
A most attractive version of De Wit's finely engraved map of Scotland enhanced, visually, by the addition at each side of columns of gazetteers listing the cities and market towns of England and Wales. This issue was distributed, according to the imprint at the foot of the right column, by Nicolas Visscher in Amsterdam and John Overton in London, aimed obviously at a more international market. De Wit had based this map on that of Nicholas Sanson, 1665, but has added further place names. Overton produced his own copperplate based on this and published it in London in 1690. Although the addition of the non-Scottish gazetteers on this example was probably a publisher's error they, nevertheless, make for a most dramatic image. Minor negligible repairs to old folds.
