An attractive and interesting plan of Nancy and environs by Melchior Tavernier. The title appears in manuscript in the lower right corner whilst above the map are profile views of the fort, redoubts and circonualations. Nancy in Lorraine had been overrun by Louis XIII's troops in 1633 and was the scene of many skirmishes between French and German forces. The map is finely engraved with delicate hachuring indicating relief features, and includes letters and numbers, but lacks a key, suggesting, along with the lack of printed title, that this is a proof example of a broadsheet map - which we have been unable to trace in any institutions.
