Carte Des Environs De Philipsbourg ...

Carte Des Environs De Philipsbourg ...

A detailed and most unusual engraved plan, printed with sepia/red ink, of Philipsbourg and environs on the bank of the Rhine where, in 1734, hostilities between French and Austrian troops broke out. Dedicated by the mapmaker Bernard Jaillot to the French King, and finely engraved by Antoine Coquart, the positions of the French infantry and cavalry are shown set against those of the Austrian Empire. One small paper defect but a fascinating and scarce item.
