Secunda Partis Asiae ...
|
A finely engraved and rare map of south west Asia and north east Africa with Arabia central, published in 1593. Gerard De Jode's map was influenced by the great Italian cartographer Giacomo Gastaldi, and appeared in his rare atlas "Speculum Orbis Terrarum ...". Well detailed, the map has a number of names given for the deserts and mountains, not given in other maps of the period. Only two editions of De Jode's atlas appeared making his maps much more rare than those of his rival Ortelius. A very attractive example.
