Vincenzo Coronelli's small map of the Canary Isles is dedicated to "Sig. Ottavio Felice Mainero, Accademico Degli Argonauti" - a member of the Society of Argonauts, one of the first and longest established Geographical Societies, that was in fact conceived by Coronelli. Madeira and Porto Santo appear while Tenerife, Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are depicted in some detail, with coastal and land relief shown. This attractive map is traversed by rhumb lines, a compass rose appears centrally, two sailing ships are given, and the title is supported by two water cherubs - all adding to the map's decoration. A good opportunity to acquire a map of the islands infrequently mapped alone, and from the leading Italian mapmaker of the period.
