Quarto. Title-page, pp.[ii] dedication to the courteous reader, pp.i-xix introduction, pp.[i] contents page, pp.1-78, pp.78(appears twice)-96, pp.89-96, pp.129-136, pp.113-128, pp.137-287 with 53 uncoloured copperplate engraved county maps by Robert Morden. Despite the non-linear numbering of the pages of text, the information appears complete and all maps, finely engraved and many with simply decorated title cartouches, are present. Robert Morden (d.1703) was commissioned to engrave a set of county maps for the 1695 new edition of Camden's "Britannia". However, the first series he prepared were rejected as being too small, and these were later published as this "New Description and State of England". The book first appeared in 1701, with this the second edition of 1704 - "To which are Added, New and Exact Lists of the House of Peers and Commons, of the Lord-Lieutenants of each County, of the Army, Navy, Officers and Offices, of all Persons in Places of Profit or Trust, belonging to this Kingdom". Calf rebacked with hinges broken. Internal contents generally good and clean, one or two marginal tears and areas of loss. Late nineteenth century bookplate of Charles Arthur Wynne Finch.
