|
A head and shoulders portrait of Johann David Koehler (1684-1755), the scientist, historian, numismatist, librarian and Rector of Altdorf University. Koehler also collaborated with Christoph Weigel in the production of school atlases such as "Atlas Manualis" and "Descriptio Orbis Antiquus ...". This attractive mezzotint shows Koehler in official dress within a roundel surrounded by bold, architectural detail and some foliage. Beneath the portrait itself words by G.Thomasius pay tribute to the Rector. Kenkel's name, along with the date and place of publication, appears lower left.
