Engraved by Filipe Galle, this is a fine portrait of one of the great figures from the history of cartography. The portrait appeared in editions of the “Theatrum ...”, Ortelius' most important and influential work, from 1579 onwards. The text below the elegant portrait translates as "Ortelius gave mankind an image of the world to see, Galleus gave the world the image of Ortelius". Printed on thick paper with blank verso.
