This fine map of Europe is one of the few folio works by Pieter Van Der Aa. The map depicts from the Azores in the west to the Caspian Sea in the east and from Nova Zemla in the north to Cairo in the south. The map is projected as part of a globe, with the lines of latitude and longitude shown. The prime meridian, in the classical manner, passes through the Canary Isles. The magnificent allegorical cartouche is by Jan Goeree, Dutch designer, artist and poet.
