Anglia Regnum
|
Jansson's map of England and Wales is very similar to Blaeu's; only his signature in the lower left corner and the depiction of the shields of Scotland and Ireland are different, suggesting Jansson used Blaeu's map as his model. The title sits in a decorative cartouch beneath the English shield with three lion. Sailing ships adorn the waters of the North and Irish seas. The mileage scale in the lower right corner is flanked by sheep and a cherub holding a compass, while an armillary sphere sits on top. This particular map is from the 1638 edition of "Newer Atlas", and thus has German text to the verso. Expert restoration to lower centrfold just extending into the printed area.
