Accuratissima Angliae Regni Et Walliae Principatus ...
|
De Wit's map of England and Wales was first published under the title "Anglia Regnum In Omnes Suos Ducatus, Comitatus, Et Provinvias Divisum Auctore F. De Wit." This later state, as well as the altered title, has the added imprint of Jean Covens and Cornelius Mortier, and De Wit's privilege, which must have been added to the plate in 1689 or shortly afterwards. The title cartouche in the upper right corner is held by cherubs and is surmounted by the three English lions. Original outline colour delineates each of the counties and the county towns are clearly marked. Lines of latitude and longitude traverse the map ornamented with a number of simple compass roses. Reinforcement to centrefold, nevertheless a good example.
