Tractus Danubii, Fluminis In Europa Maximi, A Fontibus ...
|
Willem Blaeu's rare map of the Danube and surrounding lands appeared in only the 1634 and 1635 editions of the "Novus Atlas". It extends from Switzerland, through Bavaria and Austria, to Hungary. This interesting map was a pasted together composite of parts of plates from Blaeu's very rare, six-sheet wall map of Germany that was published in 1612. As such, this is effectively the lower right corner of that wall map with the remaining decorative border running below the map (which is otherwise trimmed) and with a separately printed title pasted along the top. The map complements a similar composite of the Rhine, both being replaced by specifically designed maps which were to be published over the full life-span of the Blaeu atlas history. Elegantly engraved in good detail.
