A finely engraved and detailed plan of Danzig, now Gdansk, with its environs, the River Vistula and the immediate Baltic Coastline. The lower section of the plate incorporates a finely designed panorama with nine important buildings identified and the city coats of arms above. In the lower left corner, a mythical female figure with two attendant cherubs, a globe and scientific instruments are all shown to represent the city. At the lower right, merchants are seen trading against a background of marine activity - representing the significance of this Hanseatic League port. A fine example of the output of Johann Baptist Homann, one of the most prominent German map publishers of the century.
