A wonderful compilation sheet with a map of Africa at its centre. Brion de la Tour's map of Africa was augmented and improved by Louis Charles Desnos and published from 1766. The map is flanked by two columns of text, pasted on to the page in this example (presumably also revised and updated), and the whole is contained within a decorative border. Le Charpentier's
signature as artist, draftsman and engraver is worked in to the border along with the date 1767. His decoration highlights knowledge and learning, the Age of Enlightenment during which this map was produced. In good, clean condition.
