This map of the British Isles was published in De Fer's "Atlas Ou Recueil De Cartes Geographiques ..." and shows the area divided into provinces rather than counties - this was not unusual in French maps of this period - and French names are given, this Dover is Douvre. Here, attractive colour outlines the provinces and adds further highlighting to the large and dominant title cartouch in the upper right corner. The cartouche includes detail of cock fighting and hunting dogs - the sporting pasttimes of the period, certainly as perceived by the Parisian mapmaker.
