"England And Wales Drawn From All The Surveys Which Have Hitherto Been Made Of Particular Counties The Situation Of Many Places Regulated By Numerous Astronomical Observations And The Roads Described In A Very Neat And Distinct Method It Being Intended For A Travelling Map Through South Britain". This map sometimes appeared in Emanuel Bowen and Thomas Kitchin's "Large English Atlas" but was probably also published separately. This example showns slight signs of old folds suggesting it was used as a travelling (pocket) map. The map has the imprint of John Bowles in Cornhil and Carrington Bowles in St Paul's Church and is thus the second state of the map from after 1766 when John Bowles is known to have moved premises (the first state shows his to be at the "Black Horse"). An interesting road map.
