A New Plan Of London Westminster And Southwark

A New Plan Of London Westminster And Southwark

An attractive map of London extending from Islington to Wapping and from Newington to Paddington. The map was engraved by Harry Ashby, whose name appears in the lower right corner, and was published in Noorthouck's "A New History Of London" along with numerous ward plans of the City. The map shows good detail of the city's layout at this time and shows Blackfriars Bridge - only recently completed and opened to the public, and one of just three bridges across the Thames in London at this time. Individual buildings are clearly identifiable and are clarified on this example with appealing later hand colour. One or two minor marginal tears repaired otherwise in good condition.
