Barkshire Described
|
A classic decorative county map from John Speed's atlas, "The Theatre Of The Empire Of Great Britaine". This particular example was published in the 1676 edition of the atlas by Bassett and Chiswell. Text on the reverse of the map describes the county and gives a gazetteer. The map has a large panorama of Windsor Castle above. A cartouche to the left lists the founding members of the Order of the Garter in 1350, and to the right is a portrait of James I in Garter robes.
