Ierusalem, Cum Suburbis

Ierusalem, Cum Suburbis

A dramatic presentation of historic Jerusalem and its environs. Mattheus Seutter's plate has a title in Latin and German above a large plan, with major buildings in bird's-eye profile, and inundated with and surrounded by vignette scenes depicting events and places mentioned in both Old and New Testaments. Locations and vignettes are numbered and identified in the lower panel of dense text where a key details almost 260 references on the map. With attractive wash colour and minor centrefold repair, a fascinating and intricate engraving.
