His Majesty of Prussia - grim and old - Sadowa's King - by needle guns made bold; With Bismarck of the royal conscience, keeper, In dreams political none wiser-deeper.
Prussia is shown as its King and Bismark in a position of relative strength after their defeat of the Austrians at Sadowa.
The map was published in 1869 by Hodder & Stoughton in a volume entitled "Geographical Fun, Or Humourous Outlines Of Various Countries". The author was one William Harvey writing under the pseudonym Aleph. His idea for this fun series of maps came from a fifteen year old girl who amused her sick brother with geographical sketches personified. The volume's introduction suggests the educational (rather than satirical) value of the maps - rendering geography fun for all.
