A most interesting map of Europe surrounded by creatures supposedly indigenous to the continent. However, illustrations include creatures and plants such as flamingos, pelicans, buffalo and porcupines, amongst some 35 images in total and do not seem to be indigenous to the region shown and would perhaps more suitably belong to the map of North America - perhaps a printing mistake? The Callewaert brothers were some of the relatively few publishing atlases in Brussels and we believe this map appeared in their "Atlas Elementaire" of 1861.
