This plate from Diderot's "Encyclopaedie" shows three different
cartographical representations of north-eastern Russia including Kamchatka. The first map shows the first ideas regarding Kamchatka, based on the theories of Albulgasi-Bayadur-Chan that were published in Leiden in 1726. The second map is a reduction of one published in Nuremberg which shows a reduced size Kamchatka. The third map is the largest and seems to
support the theory of a passage to the Indies via a north passage. Slight evidence of old folds and minor offsetting.
