An attractive example of this popular map of New England, first published in 1716, in a good, clear impression. The map continued to be published for the greater part of the next sixty years, but this example laces the publisher's privilege suggesting an early example, by which time the engraving was rather worn. The map is identifiable as one of the last versions in the sequence of influential New England maps first published by Jan Jansson, and with the celebrated view of New York, by Nicolas Visscher, from the 1660s. The bold, full wash colour, complements the strength of the engraving and clarity of the design.
