A very fresh example of a decorative and informative world map by the renowned German cartographer, Johann Baptist Homann, deriving from that of Amsterdam mapmaker Adam Zurner of a few years earlier. Homann's map corrects the earlier cartography utilising De L'Isle's depiction for peninsula California and Kamschatka but maintaining a rather rectangular shape for Australia. Surrounding the map is a wealth of information in
text and vignette illustration, the latter showing physical phenomena, celestial spheres and planetary diagrams taken from Zurner. This is a particularly attractive map with clearly engraved detail and delicate wash colour in pastel shades.
