A finely engraved portrait of Ortelius aged about 50, by Philip Galle. The text below reads: "By looking, Ortelius gave to mortal beings the world,/ by looking at his face, Galle gave them Ortelius." The map appeared in editions of the "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" from 1579.
