This charming early-twentieth century atlas was published by the gentlemen's and boys' outfitters, R.W.Forsyth. Based in Glasgow and Edinburgh their own advertisements adorn the front and rear endpapers - the latter advertises, "Colonial And Tropical Outfits Complete In Every Detail For Gentlemen And Ladies". The
lithographed maps within the work also bear the Forsyth name as well as that of W. & A.K.Johnston, renowned Scottish mapmakers of the period. The maps include the British Empire, town plans of major cities arond the world and some physical maps, while the frontispiece is an attractive illustration of world flags. COPAC lists one 1907 edition of the atlas held by Aberdeen library. Our example is a later edition of 1920. A
fascinating example of commercial cartography. Quarto. pp.[iv] frontispiece, Tp, pp.[i] blank, pp.[vi], pp.136 of single page lithographed maps (numbered to 128 as some maps are a and b examples), pp.1-99 index. With green buckram binding showing a printed title to the front and the embossed arms of R.W.Forsyth to the back. Corners worn otherwise in generally good condition.
