With the "cum privilegio" that was added in 1578 and "fol.32" added to the Latin verso text, this is an attractive example of a rare map from the "Speculum Orbis Terrarum" in its final edition of 1593. De Jode's atlas was the far less successful competitor to Ortelius' work and his maps are thus more rare. The map is oriented with north to the right of the page, as is Ortelius' map, and like many maps of the period, it's outline is based on that of Mercator. Decoration is provided by means of sailing ships in the surrounding waters. The map was first published in 1570 and a second edition appeared in 1578 with the privilege added - this edition was then reprinted for the final edition of De Jode's atlas in 1593. A good example of a rare and significant collector's map.
