A large, interesting and detailed map of Utah published by the Department of the Interior of the General Land Office, overseeing the sale of public land, in 1866. Overseen by Commissioner Joseph S. Wilson, Utah is mapped at the scale of 18 miles to one inch. The map indicates the extent of existing surveys and, identified in a key, also shows mineral and metal deposits, including gold, iron and lead. The reservations are also identified in the key. Utah had become a territory in 1850 and achieved
statehood in 1896. Expert restoration to old folds and minor areas of paper weakness. A fascinating record of the opening up of the American West in the period immediately after the Civil War.
