One of the last of the decorative double hemisphere world maps with allegories of the continents, a tradition started by Plancius and Vrients in the late 16th century. Cassini, whose rare atlas included a number of significant maps of Pacific islands, acknowledges Cook's voyages; Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands are shown. This attractive example has some restoration and is backed but nevertheless very presentable.
