Rossi's attractive map of the French and Flanders coastline from Dieppe to 'Nievmegen' also extends inland to include Luxembourg, Verdun and Reims. Also depicted is Kent on the far side of the Channel. The map is based on Nicolas Sanson's map of the same region, newly updated by Giorgio Widman, an engraver employed by Rossi. The map was published in Rossi's "Mercurio Geografico", for which he is perhaps best-known. This was an interesting Italian publication at a time when Dutch and French mapmakers were dominating the map trade - Rossi and Coronelli being two notable Italian exceptions.
