A dramatic and very attractive map of present day Morocco with Marrakech, Taroudant and Fez highlighted. The Canary Islands feature as part of the Fortunate Isles of Greek myth and an inset to the top left hand corner shows the Penõn de Velez - a fortress on the Northern coast. Ships and a sea monster and elaborate cartouches around the inset, mileage scale and title make this a striking image. The map appeared in the Jodocus Hondius continuation of Mercator's important"Atlas ...." series. Minor scuffing and support to original central fold, otherwise a good example in attractive and bright original colour.
